A $2.6 billion Dubai-style integrated entertainment city is planned for a 68 hectare site on the Sunshine Coast that is currently used for strawberry and macadamia farming.
A development proposal has been lodged for the project, to be called Infinity Planet, that would be located alongside the Bruce Highway at 235-245 Bartholomew Road, Elimbah.
The precinct would have theme parks, 700 hotel rooms, 50 cultural pavilions, a 9000-seat ‘city hall’ venue for events, a 136,000sq m internationally-themed retail and dining precinct and a globally-connected business and technology park.
The project is described as being ‘regionally transformative’ in one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions.
If it gets the go ahead, parts of the precinct are scheduled to open before the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.
