A boutique childcare centre proposed at Bardon would see an old church converted into a new use.

A development application has been lodged for the property at 7 Vimy Street to keep the pre-1946 church building at the front of the block and extend the building out the back to two storeys, with three technical storeys in the middle, in keeping with the character housing in the area.

The centre would cater for 82 children and would have three large outdoor play areas, five activity rooms and undercroft car parking for 17 car parks. It would operate from 7am to 7pm.

Buildings would cover only 34.1% of the 1,747sq m site.

This development is designed to meet the need for long day care in Bardon and provide increased choice, availability and accessibility to childcare for local families, according to the planning application.
